India celebrated another memorable day at the Commonwealth Games as Army Subedar Gulveer Singh made history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win a medal in the men's 10,000m event. The 28-year-old secured the silver medal with an impressive timing of 27:49.78, battling challenging weather conditions and producing a remarkable final-lap surge. Australia's Kai Robinson claimed gold with a time of 27:48.93, while David Mullarkey of the Isle of Man finished third to take bronze.
India's success continued in other events as Harjinder Kaur clinched a silver medal in women's weightlifting. The boxing contingent also enjoyed an excellent outing, with six Indian boxers advancing to the semifinals and guaranteeing six medals for the country. Notably, the men's 10,000m race marked the first time since 1986 that no athlete from the traditionally dominant African nations finished on the podium, making Gulveer Singh's historic achievement even more significant.
