Former Captains Write to Australian Foreign Minister Over Imran Khan’s House Arrest

Seven former captains of the Australian cricket team have jointly written to Australian Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong, urging the Australian government to raise humanitarian concerns with Pakistan over the detention of former Pakistani Prime Minister and cricketing legend Imran Khan. The former captains said they felt compelled to speak out over the situation and asked the government to take up the matter with Pakistani authorities.

The letter was signed by Allan Border, Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, Belinda Clark, Kim Hughes, Mark Taylor and Steve Waugh. The former captains clarified that they were writing not as diplomats or political figures, but as former leaders of the Australian cricket team who believed they needed to use their voices to express concern over Imran Khan’s detention.
