Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) Chairman Brijesh Goyal has urged the Central Government to conduct the remaining IPL matches of the season without spectators as part of fuel conservation measures. In a letter addressed to Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Goyal requested the government to consider organizing the remaining fixtures at a limited number of venues to reduce energy consumption amid concerns over fuel shortages linked to the West Asia crisis.
According to the letter, revising the IPL schedule and limiting travel between cities could help save lakhs of litres of petrol and diesel. Goyal also highlighted that reducing the frequent movement of teams and officials would lower the burden on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) reserves caused by continuous air travel. The proposal has sparked discussions over balancing sporting events with national resource management during a period of global uncertainty.
