Chess Olympiad: India Continue Winning Run

India continued their winning momentum at the 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, with both the Open and Women’s teams registering victories in the second round. In the Open section, the defending champions defeated Indonesia 2.5-1.5. World champion D Gukesh drew against Satria Duta Cahaya, while Vidit Gujrathi and R Praggnanandhaa also shared the points in their respective games. Nihal Sarin secured the crucial win against Arif Abdul Hafiz to seal India’s team victory.

In the Women’s section, India defeated Finland 3-1. Savitha Shri, Vantika Agrawal and Divya Deshmukh registered victories in their respective games, while R Vaishali drew against Anastasia Keinanen. India are the defending champions in both the Open and Women’s sections after winning gold in both categories at the 2024 Olympiad in Budapest.
