Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has backed newly selected off-spinner Saransh Jain to feature in India's playing XI for the opening Test against Sri Lanka. According to Ashwin, Saransh is a unique off-spinner who can also contribute with the bat, making him an ideal all-round option. He predicted that Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, and Saransh Jain could all be included in the playing XI. Ashwin also said that Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul should open the innings, while Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and either Sai Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal should strengthen the batting order. He added that Sai Sudharsan and Jasprit Bumrah must prove their fitness before selection.
Ashwin also addressed the controversy surrounding his earlier remarks on young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He clarified that his suggestion of keeping the youngster with the team to learn and assist during matches was never intended to insult or belittle him. Instead, he emphasized that spending time in the dressing room and observing senior players would accelerate Vaibhav's development. Ashwin expressed confidence that the young batter has immense potential and will grow into an outstanding cricketer in the future.
