Star all-rounder Andre Russell has officially retired from the Indian Premier League (IPL), bringing an end to a remarkable decade-long association with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Known for his explosive batting, devastating finishes, and match-winning performances, Russell has decided to step away from playing IPL cricket but will continue to contribute to the franchise in a new capacity.
KKR has announced that the 37-year-old Jamaican will take on the role of “Power Coach” for the 2026 IPL season. In this mentoring position, Russell will guide young cricketers, helping them refine their power-hitting, finishing skills, and all-round abilities. His extensive experience in T20 leagues around the world is expected to add significant value to KKR’s preparation for upcoming seasons.
Russell, who joined KKR in 2014, became one of the most feared hitters in IPL history. His unforgettable knocks, exceptional strike rates, and ability to turn games single-handedly made him a fan favorite and a vital part of the team. While his retirement marks the end of an era, his new coaching role ensures his influence on the team will continue in a meaningful way. KKR hopes that Russell’s mentorship will shape the next generation of match-winners and maintain the team’s competitive edge in the IPL.
