In yet another instance of political misinformation, the YSR Congress Party (YCP) has allegedly launched a fake narrative blaming the Andhra Pradesh government for a tragic bus accident that claimed 19 lives.
The accident occurred when a Hyderabad-to-Bengaluru bus caught fire after colliding with a motorcycle. Forensic and preliminary police reports confirmed that the accident happened due to the impact of the collision, which led to the fire. However, YCP members and supporters reportedly spread false claims on social media, suggesting that the tragedy was caused by the government’s alleged negligence toward illegal liquor and belt shops.
CCTV footage and initial evidence, however, clearly showed that the biker and his pillion rider were drunk and overspeeding, leading to the mishap. Despite this, YCP attempted to pin the blame on the ruling NDA government led by Chandrababu Naidu, prompting widespread outrage.
The Andhra Pradesh police have now taken swift action, registering cases against 27 individuals linked to YSRCP, including official spokesperson Are Syamala and the party’s official X (Twitter) handle. The case was filed based on a complaint from a resident of Kurnool, under sections related to Communal Hate and Public Mischief.
Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway, warning that spreading fake news during sensitive situations will not be tolerated.
