The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections delivered a major political upset, with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) facing a significant setback. Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the largest party, marking a dramatic shift in the state’s political landscape. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, along with several ministers, suffered defeat. Stalin himself lost from Kolathur to TVK candidate VS Babu by a margin of 9,000 votes.
Responding for the first time after the results, Stalin took to X and stated that he respectfully accepts the people’s mandate. Out of the total 234 seats, TVK secured 107 seats to become the single largest party, while the DMK alliance won 74 seats and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) alliance finished with 53 seats, reflecting a major realignment in Tamil Nadu politics.
