Rising tensions in West Asia have pushed global oil prices higher, prompting the United States to consider measures to stabilize fuel markets. US President Donald Trump announced that certain oil-related sanctions could be eased to maintain steady supply.
Trump made the remarks after holding a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said the move is intended to ensure uninterrupted crude oil supply and prevent a sharp rise in fuel prices during the ongoing conflict. Trump added that sanctions imposed on some countries could be lifted if the situation returns to normal. However, he did not provide further details.
He also stated that US naval forces and partner countries would work together to ensure the safety of oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route for crude oil.
Trump acknowledged that military actions could lead to higher oil prices but said the steps were necessary to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. He warned that any attempt by Iran to block global oil shipments would be met with strong action.
According to Trump, the United States will not tolerate efforts that disrupt global oil transportation or threaten energy supplies.
