High tension prevailed in Shadnagar town of Ranga Reddy district on Saturday when students from a Government Social Welfare Gurukul Degree College staged a protest against their principal, alleging harassment and irregularities. The students complained about poor hostel facilities and inappropriate behavior by the principal, demanding immediate action. Angered by the administration’s negligence, they marched to the main junction and staged a sit-in protest, bringing traffic to a halt.
Police reached the spot to control the situation. During the confrontation, a woman constable reportedly argued with the protesting students and allegedly pushed one of them, which triggered outrage among the others. The students retaliated in anger, questioning, “We came seeking justice — and you assault us?” The protest continued as students insisted they would not leave until the district collector arrived and addressed their concerns.
Incidents of harassment and administrative negligence in government-run Gurukul institutions have been surfacing repeatedly, raising questions about the Social Welfare Department’s monitoring system. Student organizations have demanded strict government action to ensure safety and accountability in these educational institutions.
