Political tensions escalated in Chippagiri of Kurnool district after police arrested YSRCP Alur MLA Virupakshi late on Saturday night. According to YSRCP sources, a large number of police personnel reached the MLA’s residence in the early hours and took Virupakshi and his son Chandrasekhar into custody before shifting them to Chippagiri police station. The party alleged that CCTV camera hard disks were also taken during the operation.
YSRCP leaders claimed that the MLA had visited the residence of a party worker to offer support after an alleged attack by TDP leader Nagaraju, during which stones were reportedly pelted at him and his brother Sriram was injured. The party alleged that their complaints were not acted upon and accused the police of taking one-sided action. Police proceeded with the arrest as part of the case-related developments.
