BJP Telangana State President N. Ramchander Rao strongly objected to the recent verdict delivered by Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad. He stated that the people of the state have clearly witnessed a situation where a person was elected as an MLA from one party and within six months joined another party and contested the Lok Sabha elections on behalf of that party. Despite such clear circumstances, he said it was surprising that the incident was not considered a case of party defection. Ramchander Rao criticized the decision, stating that even with clear records of a person elected from one party campaigning for another party’s candidate and contesting elections under that party’s banner, declaring it as not a defection is an insult to democracy.
He also recalled that the Anti-Defection Law was introduced by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi through a constitutional amendment. In this context, he demanded that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi respond to the issue. Ramchander Rao alleged that under the Congress government in Telangana, the Anti-Defection Law is being openly violated, and the Speaker delivering such a verdict amounts to undermining constitutional values.
He further questioned Rahul Gandhi, saying that while he claims to be protecting the Constitution, how can he justify verdicts that appear to support the actions of leaders from his own party. Ramchander Rao stated that the verdict not only disrespects democracy but also undermines the Constitution and the mandate given by the people. He concluded by saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly objects to this decision.
