A major controversy erupted in the Punjab Legislative Assembly after opposition members alleged that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann attended the session under the influence of alcohol. The accusations surfaced during a special session on the occasion of May Day, where the opposition claimed that the Chief Minister fumbled multiple times while addressing the House. They urged the Speaker to conduct breathalyzer tests for all members to verify the claims.
The issue intensified after a Congress MLA accused Mann of being intoxicated during his speech, triggering heated exchanges in the Assembly. Leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal shared a video of the CM’s speech on social media, which quickly went viral. The party criticized the alleged conduct, calling it inappropriate for a person holding such a high office, and demanded a public dopе test to establish the truth. Responding to the controversy, Mann appealed for dignity and restraint, urging members to avoid unnecessary arguments during the special session.
