Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that a memorial park for Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu is being developed in Amaravati to inspire future generations. A 58-foot statue will be installed in the capital in remembrance of his 58-day sacrifice for the self-respect of Telugu people. The Chief Minister attended the official Martyrdom Day programme at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada, paid floral tributes to Potti Sriramulu, and felicitated his family members.
The Chief Minister said Potti Sriramulu’s supreme sacrifice led to the formation of Andhra State, the first linguistic state in the country, in 1953, followed by the creation of Andhra Pradesh in 1956. Marking his 125th birth anniversary on March 16, 2026, the government will conduct year-long celebrations and unveil the statue on December 15 next year. He said 6.8 acres have been allotted for the memorial park and museum, calling it the first such memorial in Amaravati and a mark of respect by the coalition government.
