

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a rare and prestigious honour during his first-ever visit to Ethiopia. The Ethiopian government conferred upon him the country’s highest civilian award, the “Great Honour of the Nishan of Ethiopia”. The award was presented by Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali at a ceremonial event held at the Addis International Convention Centre.
PM Modi arrived in Addis Ababa on Tuesday after concluding his visit to Jordan. He was warmly received at the airport by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, following which both leaders held wide-ranging bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
Earlier, while addressing an event in Amman, the capital of Jordan, Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that India–Jordan bilateral trade would double over the next five years, reaching USD 5 billion. He invited Jordanian business leaders to actively participate in India’s economic growth. Modi addressed the India–Jordan Business Forum alongside King Abdullah II. Crown Prince Hussein and senior ministers from Jordan’s trade and industry sectors were also present.
During the Jordan visit, India and Jordan signed multiple agreements covering areas such as culture, renewable energy, water management, digital infrastructure, and cooperation between heritage sites like Petra and Ellora.

In a gesture symbolizing deep friendship, Jordan’s Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II personally drove Prime Minister Modi to the historic Jordan Museum in Amman and briefed him on the nation’s history. This warm hospitality highlighted the strong ties between the two countries. Crown Prince Hussein is recognized as a 42nd-generation descendant of Prophet Muhammad.
