Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has entrusted key responsibilities to Guntur MP and Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar. He reportedly informed senior party leaders that Chandrasekhar has been assigned the crucial task of persuading the Centre on two vital issues that are central to the state’s future.
The primary responsibilities include securing legal status for Amaravati as the capital and bringing in much-needed funds from the Central government. Emphasising his confidence, Chandrababu stated that Pemmasani, apart from being a Union Minister, would also play a decisive role in mobilising Central funds for the state. Chandrasekhar himself echoed this in a recent media interaction, stating that the Chief Minister had given him “heavy homework” and placed the responsibility of ensuring Central support for development firmly on his shoulders.
The Amaravati capital issue is once again emerging as a major political focal point. It dominated the discourse during the 2019–24 elections and is expected to be equally significant in the 2029 polls. With farmers strongly demanding legal recognition for Amaravati, the state government is making concerted efforts to fulfil this promise. Despite recent hurdles, CM Chandrababu has now tasked Pemmasani Chandrasekhar with convincing the Centre and facilitating the introduction of the necessary legislation in Parliament to grant Amaravati its long-awaited legal status.
