Uttam Seeks Chhattisgarh NOC for Sammakka Sagar

Telangana Irrigation, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy met Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in New Delhi and sought an early No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Sammakka Sagar Project, also known as the Sammakka Sarakka Barrage. He requested Chhattisgarh’s cooperation to enable full reservoir storage and ensure the project’s intended irrigation benefits. Uttam Kumar Reddy assured that Telangana would provide full compensation for land and houses in Chhattisgarh that could be submerged due to the project.

The barrage, located across the Godavari at Tupakulagudem in Mulugu district, has a designed storage capacity of 6.94 TMC and is intended to divert 46.96 TMC of Godavari water for irrigation. The project aims to stabilise 4.40 lakh acres under SRSP Stage II and provide irrigation to another 30,000 acres under the Ramappa–Pakhal Link Canal. Telangana has already paid ₹9.883 crore to Chhattisgarh’s Water Resources Department for studying backwater effects. Uttam said Telangana is also ready to deposit compensation funds in advance and urged both states to resolve the pending issues at the earliest.
