The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has approved the long-awaited public issue of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), paving the way for the exchange to raise around ₹30,000 crore from the market. NSE had submitted its draft IPO documents to SEBI in June, and the regulator granted its approval on Friday. According to reports, the IPO could open on September 18, while the price band and other details may be announced on September 15.
The NSE IPO has been in the pipeline for nearly a decade due to the co-location controversy. With the regulatory hurdles now cleared, the exchange is expected to begin preparations for the fund-raising exercise. The issue will be a complete Offer for Sale (OFS), with existing shareholders planning to sell 14.89 crore shares, representing around a 6% stake. SBI alone is expected to sell 2.48 crore shares. With an estimated market valuation of around ₹5 lakh crore, the IPO could raise ₹30,000 crore and potentially surpass Hyundai India's ₹27,870 crore record. Meanwhile, telecom company Jio is also reportedly planning an IPO targeting around ₹37,000 crore.
