Political analyst Parakala Prabhakar has made strong remarks regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of electoral rolls. He alleged that nearly 6.5 crore voters have already been removed during the exercise and warned that the number could rise significantly before the process is completed. According to him, there is a possibility that as many as 16.5 crore people could lose their voting rights if adequate safeguards are not ensured.
Parakala Prabhakar expressed concern that the exercise may go beyond the removal of duplicate or deceased voters and could affect broader sections of society. He argued that the process has the potential to exclude certain social groups from active participation in the democratic system, thereby limiting their role in the country's political landscape. His remarks have sparked debate over the implementation and implications of the voter verification exercise.
