The preparations for Panchayat elections in Telangana have begun, bringing renewed political activity across villages. Aspirants planning to contest are already making arrangements and studying reservation allocations to finalize their strategies.
On Thursday, the State Election Commission held a review meeting with District Collectors, instructing them to ensure smooth and transparent election management. With these directions issued, the election schedule is likely to be announced within a week. The government has already decided to conduct the Panchayat elections in three phases, with plans to complete the entire process between December 15 and 20.
Although a notification for local body elections was issued last month, the MPTC and ZPTC elections were halted due to a court stay on BC reservations during the nomination period. This time, the Election Commission is taking extra precautions to avoid similar interruptions.
Meanwhile, villages have been functioning without elected governing bodies for almost 18 months. With the two-child policy removed, the number of aspiring candidates has significantly increased.
