Andhra Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister and Forest Minister, Pawan Kalyan, has scored big with a smart tech move to protect crops from wild elephants. The challenge of elephants entering villages and damaging crops has long troubled forest zones and agency areas. To tackle this, the state — with Pawan’s initiative — brought four trained kumki elephants from Karnataka to assist in driving away the wild ones. But Pawan didn’t stop there. He turned to Artificial Intelligence to make the mission more effective.
Using AI-powered solar systems, the setup detects elephant movement and automatically plays gunshot-like sounds, scaring them off safely without harm. A recent viral video shows an elephant retreating after hearing the sound — a direct result of this innovative experiment. Villagers say the system has already started working, keeping elephants away from their fields. Encouraged by the results, the forest department now plans to expand this AI setup to more regions across the state. Even officials from neighboring states are reportedly studying this unique model. Netizens are praising Pawan Kalyan, calling Andhra Pradesh the first state in India to successfully use AI tech to manage human-elephant conflict.
