The Election Commission of India has taken an interim decision in the dispute between rival factions of the Trinamool Congress. The poll panel has frozen the name All India Trinamool Congress and the party’s traditional Flowers and Grass symbol, preventing either faction from using them in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly bypolls.
The Mamata Banerjee-led faction has now been assigned the name Mamata All India Trinamool Congress along with a Football Player election symbol. The rival faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee has been assigned the name Democratic Trinamool Congress and an Envelope symbol. The arrangement is intended for the upcoming bypolls while the broader dispute over the original party identity and symbol remains subject to a final determination by the Election Commission.
