West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly rejected allegations of a protocol violation during President Droupadi Murmu’s recent visit to Siliguri for the International Santal Conference. She clarified that there was no breach of protocol during the President’s tour and dismissed the criticism raised by the BJP and other leaders. The controversy arose after President Murmu reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the small stage arrangement, low attendance, and the absence of several state leaders, including the Chief Minister, during the event on March 7.
Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of politicizing the issue ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal. She alleged that the party was using the President’s remarks for political gain and unfairly targeting the state government over the event’s arrangements. The Chief Minister also questioned why similar incidents in BJP-ruled states had not drawn criticism, asserting that the opposition was selectively raising the issue to create unnecessary controversy.
