Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh spoke about the distinction between Sanatan Dharma and Hindutva during the Sanatan Swabhiman Yatra. He said his mother taught him that Sanatan Dharma represents love, affection and compassion. Singh stated that he supports Sanatan Dharma but not Hindutva. He also argued that the term “Hindutva” was introduced by VD Savarkar, while Sanatan Dharma has a history spanning thousands of years.
Referring to his reading of the Quran, Singh also shared his interpretation of the term “Kafir”. He argued that it should not be understood solely as referring to someone who does not follow Islam, but also considered in the context of a person who rejects righteousness and engages in wrongdoing. His remarks have renewed public discussion about religious beliefs, the meaning of Sanatan Dharma and the distinction between Sanatan Dharma and Hindutva.
