Speculation about popular Tamil actor Dhanush’s possible entry into politics has gained momentum in Tamil Nadu. A recent meeting for women members organised in Chennai under the banner of his fan welfare association, Narpani Iyakkam, has triggered political debate. The controversy began after silver lamps presented to women at the event reportedly featured a lotus symbol, which is also the election symbol of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The development has drawn attention amid ongoing speculation that Dhanush may launch a political party named Tamilaga Ezhuchi Kazhagam. Several political voices, including members of the Congress, have reportedly questioned whether the BJP is extending behind-the-scenes support to the actor’s possible political ambitions.
Representatives associated with Dhanush’s Narpani Iyakkam have reportedly rejected the political interpretation of the lotus symbol. According to their clarification, the mark on the silver lamps was merely the manufacturer’s imprint and had no political significance. They also reportedly stated that even if the association had links with a political party, it would not be foolish enough to publicly use another party’s election symbol. However, there has been no confirmation in the information provided that Dhanush is launching a political party or entering electoral politics. For now, the controversy surrounding the gifts has added to the discussion about his possible political plans.
