The Lok Sabha witnessed a stormy debate on Tuesday after Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the appointment of Union Minister Prahlad Joshi as the new Education Minister following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. During the discussion on the Public Examinations (Amendment) Bill, the Congress leaders referred to Prahlad Joshi's past remarks regarding the release of convicts in the Bilkis Bano case and questioned the government's decision to entrust him with the Education Ministry.
The remarks drew strong objections from Union Minister Prahlad Joshi and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who challenged the Congress leaders to substantiate their allegations. BJP members demanded that Priyanka Gandhi apologize or face action by the Speaker if she failed to provide evidence. Responding to the objections, Priyanka Gandhi said her party possessed video evidence of the minister's remarks and would submit it before the House. Later, Rahul Gandhi told reporters that the government could have chosen any other minister for the Education portfolio and questioned the decision to appoint Prahlad Joshi.
