Kolathur, long considered a stronghold of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, has witnessed a dramatic political upset. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, who had remained unbeaten here since 2011 and secured three consecutive victories, suffered a surprising defeat in the latest elections. The win was secured by VS Babu, representing Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam led by Vijay.
Interestingly, VS Babu is a former DMK member who served as an MLA between 2006 and 2011. Following constituency reorganisation, Stalin entered Kolathur and won, but Babu later shifted to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam before eventually joining TVK. His victory over Stalin is seen as a significant political moment, especially given his past association with DMK and the leadership that once questioned him.
