Telangana Rakshana Sena chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha has alleged large-scale illegal constructions in Ayyappa Society and the Khanamet area of Hyderabad. She claimed that around 500 to 700 unauthorised buildings had come up in the area since the Congress government assumed power, with nearly 80 more buildings currently under construction. Alleging irregularities in property registrations and building permissions, she said structures were being permitted to rise up to 10 to 12 floors based on notarised documents. She also expressed concern over buildings being constructed with almost no space between them and the operation of colleges and PG hostels with kitchens in their cellars. Kavitha warned that the lack of proper fire safety arrangements could lead to serious consequences in the event of a fire. She further alleged that construction activities were continuing despite High Court directions restricting construction in the area due to groundwater-related concerns. Questioning the role of municipal authorities, she sought an explanation over the alleged irregular permissions and demanded a comprehensive survey of Khanamet, along with strict action against unauthorised buildings and structures violating fire safety regulations.
Kavitha gave the state government one month to take action against the alleged illegal constructions, warning that her party would otherwise visit the area and mark unauthorised buildings with red markings. She cautioned people against purchasing properties in the disputed area and demanded an investigation into registrations carried out through notarised documents. She also assured support to genuine landowners facing difficulties due to the ongoing construction activities. Criticising the functioning of the Right to Information system, she alleged that thousands of applications were pending without proper responses. Turning to state and national politics, Kavitha criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks during his Hyderabad visit, alleging that the Centre had failed to extend financial assistance to Telangana despite drought conditions. She also raised concerns over irrigation and electricity shortages, accusing the state government of failing to address farmers' problems. She urged women graduates to register as voters in large numbers and support her party in the upcoming graduate constituency elections.
