The Kadapa Municipal Corporation elections have become a major topic of political discussion, particularly after YSRCP mayoral candidate Bandi Deepti Reddy secured 66,027 votes despite the TDP winning the mayor’s post. According to the report, the election witnessed several controversies, including allegations of attacks, intimidation and pressure on opposition candidates during the nomination and polling stages. Of the 66 divisions, 52 were reportedly declared unanimous. Following a Supreme Court order, 11 YSRCP candidates filed nominations. The report also alleges that opposition leaders faced difficulties during the scrutiny and withdrawal processes, raising concerns about the conduct of the elections.
Bandi Deepti Reddy campaigned by highlighting the development initiatives undertaken during the previous YSRCP government. She received support from district party president Pochimareddy Ravindranath Reddy, former minister S.B. Amjad Basha, former mayor Suresh Babu and Kamalapuram in-charge Naren Ram Anjula Reddy. YSRCP candidates also secured victories in two divisions: Jameel won Division 46 by 344 votes, while Sandhya Rani, wife of Devirreddy Aditya, won Division 33 by 139 votes. The report alleges that polling agents were absent in these divisions and raises concerns about irregularities, including rigging and voter intimidation. Despite these allegations, Deepti Reddy’s vote count of 66,027 has become a significant talking point in the district.
