In a significant development in the phone tapping case, three key BRS leaders have reportedly been added to the list of accused. The Special Investigation Team has concluded its prolonged probe and included their names in a supplementary chargesheet. Legal approval is being sought before formally filing charges, and the SIT is preparing to submit a memo along with the chargesheet in court. The investigation has primarily focused on alleged illegal surveillance carried out between November 15 and 30, 2023, during which over 4,000 individuals were monitored and hundreds of phone conversations were reportedly intercepted.
The SIT collected statements from senior officials, including former intelligence and government authorities, which played a crucial role in naming the accused. Evidence suggests individual roles of the three leaders, including involvement in appointments, surveillance directives, and financial links such as electoral bonds. While another former public representative was also questioned earlier, his name has not been included in the chargesheet. The probe highlights the extent of alleged misuse of intelligence systems for unauthorized monitoring.
