Is It Politics to Ask for Water? – Rammachandra Rao

BJP Telangana president Rammachandra Rao criticized the state government over the denial of irrigation water to crops under the Jurala project. Supporting the farmers’ protest at the project in Jogulamba Gadwal district, he questioned the government’s decision to reserve water only for drinking purposes. Rao said farmers were worried as their crops were drying up due to the lack of water and alleged that an undemocratic government was being run in the state.

Police arrested Rammachandra Rao and several other BJP leaders at a hotel in Gollapalli, Mahabubnagar district, on Tuesday while they were on their way to Jurala, and shifted them to the police training centre in Jadcherla. Rao said the Narayanpur and Almatti projects in Karnataka had 97.4% water storage and that releasing 5 TMC of water would help protect crops in the region. BJP MP Eatala Rajender also criticized the Congress government, questioning why crops were being allowed to dry despite water being available in projects across the Krishna and Godavari basins.
