The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission has announced the withdrawal of the Model Code of Conduct in urban areas of the state. The election process for municipal corporations, municipalities and nagar panchayats had already been completed, while the process for Mandal Parishads and Zilla Parishads concluded on Saturday. Following this, State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha issued orders lifting the election code across the state, except in rural areas, with effect from 10 pm on November 7.
However, the Election Commission clarified that the Model Code of Conduct will continue to remain in force in rural areas as the election process for gram panchayats is still underway. The restrictions will remain applicable in these areas until the ongoing gram panchayat election process is completed.
