Domestic stock market indices ended the special Muhurat Trading session for Samvat 2083 on a marginally negative note. The outcome was unusual, as markets generally close in positive territory during the auspicious trading session held on the occasion of Diwali. This marks the first time since 2018 that the benchmark indices have ended Muhurat Trading in the red.
The Sensex opened at 81,299.34, gaining around 270 points, and moved between 80,932.42 and 81,442.11 before closing 28.62 points lower at 80,999.40. The Nifty began trading at 25,070.45, up 40 points, but eventually declined 43.95 points to settle at 24,986.40. Among the Sensex 30 stocks, Mahindra & Mahindra, IndiGo, Trent, Infosys and Bharti Airtel ended lower, while Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Power Grid Corporation and Adani Ports recorded gains. Muhurat Trading is a special session conducted by stock exchanges every year during Diwali. It marks the beginning of the new Samvat year, and investors traditionally consider this an auspicious time to begin new investments.
