If Nizam Was Good, Why Did People Fight for Telangana?: Kishan Reddy

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy criticised Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s reported remarks on the Nizam at the Hyderabad Liberation Day event held at Secunderabad Parade Grounds. Questioning the portrayal of the Nizam as a good ruler, Kishan Reddy asked why so many people had fought against the Nizam if his rule was considered good. He recalled the struggles and sacrifices made during the movement for Telangana’s integration with India and questioned why people had built fortified structures in villages and participated in armed resistance. Kishan Reddy said political leaders should not distort history for political purposes. The Centre organised the Hyderabad Liberation Day event at Parade Grounds on September 17, with Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan as the chief guest.

Kishan Reddy called for Telangana Liberation Day to be officially observed across the state. He said efforts would be made to ensure that the occasion is officially observed in every village of Telangana by 2029. He alleged that the state government was avoiding an official celebration because of concerns over the Majlis party. Kishan Reddy also stressed the need to preserve the history of those who sacrificed their lives during the struggle and pass it on to future generations. He further said the BJP would form the government in Telangana. The Telangana BJP has also moved an adjournment motion in the Assembly seeking official observance of Telangana Liberation Day on September 17.
