A report by the Comptroller and Auditor General has revealed that large numbers of RTC buses were used for YSRCP’s party plenary and BC convention during its tenure in power, with full rental charges not being collected. The report, presented in the Assembly on Friday, stated that the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation suffered a loss of ₹1.66 crore due to concessional charges. Additionally, the government lost ₹1.57 crore as GST was not collected on these special bus services. For the YSRCP plenary held in July 2022 at the Acharya Nagarjuna University grounds in Guntur district, the party hired 1,823 RTC buses from different districts.
Although special charges were supposed to be applied, RTC officials reportedly collected only regular fares and even granted a 10 percent concession in violation of rules, causing a loss of ₹75 lakh to the corporation and ₹72 lakh in GST to the government. Similarly, during the BC Mahasabha held in Vijayawada in December 2022, 1,439 buses were hired under the same conditions, resulting in additional losses. The CAG report also highlighted that RTC failed to recover accident compensation amounts from private bus owners despite depositing ₹1.58 crore with the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, leading to an additional loss of ₹76 lakh in interest.
