The Model Code of Conduct for elections has been lifted in urban areas across Andhra Pradesh with effect from 10 p.m. on November 7. State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punea issued the orders following the completion of the election process for mayors, chairpersons and ward members in 13 municipal corporations, 87 municipalities and nagar panchayats across the state. Vote counting and results for 100 urban local bodies were announced on November 3.
The counting process in Chirala, which was postponed due to Cyclone Murasu, was completed on November 6. With the urban local body election process now concluded, the restrictions have been withdrawn in urban areas. However, the Model Code of Conduct will continue in rural areas, as the gram panchayat election process is still pending, even though the MPTC and ZPTC results have been declared.
