Japan was shaken by a 5.7-magnitude earthquake in the early hours of Sunday, November 8. The tremor struck the western part of Shizuoka Prefecture at around 1 AM, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The earthquake's epicentre was reported to be approximately 40 kilometres deep. Tremors were also felt in the neighbouring prefectures of Aichi, Nagano and Gifu, causing concern among residents.
The earthquake damaged windows in several houses and shops, while people who were asleep rushed outdoors in fear as the ground began shaking. Authorities reported that at least 22 people had been injured and initiated response measures in the affected areas. No tsunami warning was issued. As a precaution against possible damage to railway infrastructure, bullet train services in the affected region were operating at reduced speeds. Officials urged residents to remain alert, while videos showing buildings shaking during the tremors circulated on social media.
