A case of alleged medical negligence at the Kakinada Government General Hospital has resulted in the tragic death of an eight-month pregnant woman named Malleswari from Gadimoga village in Thallarevu mandal. This incident follows the recent death of a 55-year-old patient at Rajahmundry Government Hospital on November 8, after being administered expired medicines. Two such deaths within the same month have drawn strong criticism from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Expressing deep anger over the recurring negligence in government hospitals, the Chief Minister instructed officials to initiate strict action against all those responsible. According to the preliminary investigation, Malleswari had documented allergies to Pantoprazole and was also suffering from hypertension and diabetes, all clearly noted in her case sheet. However, despite these warnings, a PG student administered a Pantop injection on November 20.
Moments after receiving the injection, the patient suffered seizures and later went into cardiac arrest, passing away around 10 PM. Investigators also found that the supervising Assistant Professor failed to monitor the treatment properly.
The Chief Minister ordered a thorough inquiry and directed senior officials to ensure stringent action is taken. He also instructed that immediate financial support be provided to the deceased woman’s family. He emphasized the need for strong systems to prevent such incidents from happening again.
