Once known for fiery speeches that often sparked controversy, MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar seems to have shifted his focus after the last election from rhetoric to results. He spends much of his time among constituents, listening to their problems, and has earned praise as a hands-on leader, nicknamed by supporters as a modern “Bhagiratha” for his water efforts. His main goal is to secure reliable drinking water for villages across the Denduluru constituency. To that end he is pushing a major water distribution project estimated at around ₹295 crore, aimed at supplying water year-round to communities in his area.
Earlier, planners had drawn up a larger water-grid scheme with estimates near ₹1,400 crore to channel Godavari waters into Unguturu and Denduluru. Chintamaneni proposed sourcing water from Dhavaleshwaram via a pipeline to Denduluru. He discussed the plan with district-in-charge minister Nadendla Manohar, who immediately ordered steps to prepare a detailed project report (DPR).
Officials say a direct pipeline from Dhavaleshwaram could cost about ₹402 crore. However, by constructing a head-regulator near Koppaka and using the Polavaram right canal route, authorities estimate the project can be completed for roughly ₹295 crore. Technical, financial and feasibility studies are now being fast-tracked.
If implemented, the scheme will not only secure continuous drinking water for Denduluru but will also benefit neighbouring Unguturu residents turning a long-standing local challenge into a sustainable solution.
