BRS Women MLAs Approach NHRC Over Alleged Misconduct at Telangana Assembly

BRS women MLAs have approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Delhi and lodged a complaint over what they alleged was misconduct and the use of force against them at the Telangana Assembly premises. After meeting NHRC member Vijaya Bharathi, former minister and BRS MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy spoke to the media and described the incident as deeply distressing. She alleged that women legislators were pulled by their hair and that attempts were made to create chaos while they were trying to enter the Assembly. She further claimed that some legislators who came forward to protect their colleagues were pushed to the ground and allegedly stepped on.

Sabitha Indra Reddy also alleged that several MLAs sustained injuries during the incident and claimed that BRS MLA Jagadish Reddy faced health problems after his blood pressure increased. She questioned who had authorised the restrictions on BRS legislators entering the Assembly and alleged that the party’s concerns were not being heard inside the House. According to her, the BRS had already approached the DGP’s office over the alleged attack on women MLAs, but had not received a response. The allegations are part of the BRS’s account of the incident, while the matter remains politically contested.
