Leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi staged a protest highlighting the plight of maize farmers in Telangana. Farmers, who cultivated maize across nearly 800,000 acres under crop diversification based on government assurances, are facing severe distress as procurement centers remain unopened even after 15 days of the crop reaching markets. With the Minimum Support Price (MSP) fixed at ₹2400, farmers are reportedly forced to sell their produce to middlemen at much lower rates of ₹1600–1700.
The protesting MLAs and MLCs marched from Gun Park to the Assembly, condemning the government’s alleged negligence. Former minister and BRS Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao demanded immediate opening of procurement centers and purchase of maize at MSP. He also criticized the absence of crop insurance announcements in the budget and delay in input subsidies over the past two years. The party urged the government to conduct immediate assessment of rain-related crop losses and extend financial support to affected farmers.
