The results of the Bihar Assembly elections have taken everyone by surprise. Voters delivered a verdict that even political analysts did not anticipate. The NDA alliance received massive support, securing an unprecedented majority and retaining power with remarkable ease. At the same time, the opposition bloc suffered a heavy setback, with voters rejecting those who expected anti-incumbency to work in their favour.
According to national analysts, the biggest factor behind the opposition’s defeat was the long-standing “jungle raj” image associated with the RJD. If the Mahagathbandhan had won, RJD’s young leader Tejashwi Yadav would have become Chief Minister. But voters showed no sympathy, and the party collapsed at the very start of the race. The public still remembers the governance under Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, which they associate with lawlessness, corruption, arrogance, and misuse of power.
Even though Tejashwi Yadav tried to erase this negative image, the memories of those years still remain vivid for the people of Bihar. The BJP did not even need to highlight it victims from that era came forward during the campaign and spoke against the RJD. This played a significant role in the defeat of the Mahagathbandhan.
Political observers say this outcome carries an important message for Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. If the YSRCP wants to regain confidence before the next elections, the party must work on correcting the negative perceptions formed during the previous tenure — including the three-capitals decision, allegations of high-handedness, controversial remarks by leaders, and the party’s defensive stance on such issues.
Analysts warn that relying solely on anti-incumbency against opponents will not save the YSRCP. Unless Jagan rebuilds trust and reconnects with the public, Bihar’s verdict could serve as a cautionary preview of what may happen in Andhra Pradesh.
