West Bengal Police on Friday froze 12 additional bank accounts linked to the Trinamool Congress (TMC), a day after the Calcutta High Court allowed partial operations of three HDFC Bank accounts holding ₹440 crore. Officials stated that the newly frozen accounts belong to multiple public and private sector banks, intensifying scrutiny over the party’s financial dealings.
With this move, a total of 15 bank accounts allegedly holding deposits worth around ₹1000 crore have been frozen. The court appointed retired Justice Subrata Talukdar as a special officer to oversee the three permitted accounts. Funds can now be used only for essential expenses such as daily operations, staff salaries, and legal costs, strictly through cheques signed by the officer.
