The Andhra Pradesh government has released an additional ₹800 crore to strengthen the implementation of the free travel scheme for women, popularly known as Stree Shakti. The move is aimed at ensuring that the scheme runs without any financial hurdles and continues to benefit women across the State.
According to official orders, the government will release ₹160 crore every month from November this year until March 2026 exclusively for the implementation of the scheme. These funds are in addition to the amounts already allocated earlier, reflecting the government’s commitment to uninterrupted execution.
The Stree Shakti scheme was formally launched on August 15 this year to provide free bus travel for women. From August to October, the government had already released ₹400 crore towards the scheme. With the latest allocation, the total funding has been significantly enhanced to meet rising demand.
Transport department officials stated that the additional funds would help avoid delays in reimbursements and support smooth operations. Various employee unions of the state-run transport corporation welcomed the decision and expressed satisfaction over the timely release of funds. Leaders of RTC unions thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for prioritising women’s welfare and supporting public transport workers.
