YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed concern over alleged incidents of violence during the nomination process for local body elections in Andhra Pradesh. In a post on X, he alleged that constitutional institutions and democratic rights were being undermined in the state. He claimed that opposition candidates were being prevented from filing nominations, nomination papers were being snatched and torn, and party leaders were being attacked. Jagan also alleged that attacks on his party leaders and MPs had taken place in the presence of police. He cited incidents reported from Kadapa, Pulivendula, Kamalapuram, Jammalamadugu, Rajampet, Rayachoti, Punganur, Tirupati, Darsi, Dachepalli and Gurazala, among other places.
Jagan raised questions over the reported police firing in Pulivendula and the difficulties allegedly faced by candidates during the nomination process. He accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s government of using its authority to influence the elections and prevent opposition candidates from contesting freely. Expressing concern over the safety of ordinary citizens, he called on the Union government to intervene immediately to protect democratic rights and constitutional institutions. He also demanded the imposition of President’s Rule in Andhra Pradesh. These are allegations made by Jagan; independent verification and responses from the authorities are needed to establish the facts.
