Jason Statham’s latest action-adventure film Mutiny became the centre of attention after it was reportedly made available on Amazon Prime Video by mistake, just hours before its scheduled theatrical release. The film was set to hit cinemas worldwide on August 21, but the unexpected streaming availability in the United States surprised movie fans.
The accidental release reportedly lasted for several hours before the platform identified the mistake and removed the film. However, the movie had already been accessed by several viewers, with reports suggesting that some managed to watch it in its entirety before it was taken down. The incident was limited to the US, while the film was not accidentally made available in other regions.
Mutiny stars Jason Statham in the lead role and follows a former military officer who sets out on a dangerous mission after witnessing the murder of his employer. His search for the people responsible takes him aboard a cargo ship carrying the killers, leading to a tense battle for survival and revenge.
The film combines action, adventure and thriller elements, with the story focusing on the protagonist’s attempt to confront a group of dangerous criminals. The accidental Prime Video listing created additional buzz around the movie on the same day as its theatrical release.
This is not the first time a major streaming platform has accidentally made a movie available ahead of schedule. In 2019, the Tamil film RK Nagar was reportedly streamed on Netflix by mistake before the platform realised the error and removed it.
The Mutiny incident once again highlights the potential problems that can occur when streaming platforms prepare digital releases and theatrical launches simultaneously. While the movie’s official theatrical release remains intact, the brief US streaming availability has already become an unusual talking point among movie lovers.
