Netflix has announced a major expansion of its South Indian content lineup. At a recent event held in Chennai, the streaming giant revealed that it plans to release one new Telugu, Tamil or Malayalam film every week for the rest of 2026. The move highlights Netflix’s growing focus on South Indian cinema and its efforts to strengthen its investments and partnerships across the region.
As part of the new lineup, Pyaar Prema Kaadhal began streaming directly on Netflix on August 21. The platform also confirmed that several much-awaited films featuring popular South Indian stars will be available for streaming. Projects involving Ram Charan, Dhanush, Vijay Deverakonda, Nani and other leading actors are among the titles expected to arrive on Netflix. Ram Charan’s Peddi is already streaming on the platform.
Netflix is also expanding beyond theatrical films by developing a strong slate of original content in South Indian languages. Super Subbu has been announced as the platform’s first Telugu original series. In Tamil, the lineup includes The Game, along with projects such as Stephen, Takshakudu and Legacy. These productions are expected to further expand Netflix’s regional storytelling portfolio.
The streaming platform also highlighted the growing international popularity of South Indian cinema. According to Netflix representatives, more than half of the top 10 highest-grossing films at the Telugu and Tamil box offices since 2023 have been acquired by the platform. In 2025, South Indian films reportedly entered Netflix’s global Top 10 trending lists across 59 countries, demonstrating the increasing international demand for regional Indian content.
With weekly releases, major star films and original series in multiple South Indian languages, Netflix is positioning itself as a major destination for Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam entertainment. The latest announcement is expected to give South Indian audiences a steady stream of new content while helping regional films reach viewers across international markets.
