

During the New Year celebrations, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, IPS, said that strict security measures have been put in place to maintain law and order in the city. He issued key instructions after holding a video conference with police officials from the TGICCC in Banjara Hills.
He clarified that New Year events and celebrations are permitted only until 1:00 AM. Any violation of the permitted time or use of sound systems against rules will attract strict action. He also announced a complete ban on liquor sales through backdoor methods after the closure of wine shops and bars, warning of severe action against illegal liquor sales.
To curb drunk driving, special “Drunk and Drive” checks are being conducted from 7:00 PM onwards at 120 locations across the city. This special drive will continue until the first week of January.
Those caught driving under the influence will face fines, imprisonment, cancellation of driving licenses, and seizure of vehicles. Youth were advised to avoid rash driving and triple riding.
People who consume alcohol were urged to use cabs or designated drivers. Cab or auto drivers refusing rides or charging extra fares will be booked under Section 178(3)(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Citizens facing inconvenience can lodge complaints via WhatsApp at 94906 16555.
