Former US President Donald Trump has lifted the additional 25 percent tariff imposed on India, signing executive orders to formalise the decision. The penalty had earlier been enforced over India’s purchase of Russian crude oil, with the Trump administration citing concerns over indirect support to Russia through energy imports.
Announcing the move, Trump stated that India has shown commitment to halting both direct and indirect imports of Russian oil. As a result, the suspension of the 25 percent additional tariff will come into effect from 12:01 AM today. The decision is expected to ease trade tensions and provide relief to Indian exporters affected by the earlier tariff hike.
