

Sai Kumar, a Telugu IAS officer, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of the Tamil Nadu government. In the backdrop of the state assembly elections, the Election Commission on Wednesday transferred Chief Secretary Muruganand. Sai Kumar, previously serving as the Chairman of Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited, has been appointed to the position. A 1990 batch IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, Sai Kumar hails from Telangana. He completed his Master’s in Political Science from the Central University, Hyderabad, and earned a PhD in Public Affairs from Madras University.
He has gradually risen through the ranks, starting as an Assistant Collector and now reaching the post of Chief Secretary. Sai Kumar has served as Collector of Dharmapuri, Commissioner of Madurai Corporation, and Chairman of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. In 2018, he was appointed Chief Secretary to then Chief Minister Palaniswami and Secretary of the Public Works Department, followed by Revenue Administration Commissioner in 2021. Since 2022, he has been serving as Chairman of Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited.
